Art14 Residency: Week Three

Lets start with the big news: I made an album of #music! Natural by Sub Alpine Drift on Bandcamp.

Album art for the album Natural

If you like this, check out some of the music I recommended last week.

Anyways, Thank you to Kate, David and the #Art14 crew for having me at L.a. Studio! I don't think I would have been able to make this art without the comfort and space their studio provided. The space is quite remote and rural, but that isolation does help the artistic spirit. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out my week one and week two posts.

I was so proud to have completed an album in the time. Sure it's only thirty minutes long, but releasing the album feels like a true success. I want to thank my dad, and many others, who reached out during my time to provide words of encouragement. Apparently my week two post came off a bit more negative than I expected. I definitely was a bit depressed, but the act of learning, experimenting and trying new things is hard, and I'm glad to have the support and time to do it.

Besides finishing the album, I also wrote some code. Not a ton, but it continued to be a good distraction when I was stuck with music. I cleaned up the headers and footers across a bunch of my sites and did some other content creation on other things I maintain.

Finally, on my way home from the residency, I stopped at toured Fallingwater, the famous house by Frank Lloyd Wright. It was beautiful and inspiring. Seeing how the house was made to blend into nature was really cool. I highly recommend visiting if you get a chance.

In terms of content for inspiration during the week, I got lost in skate videos, particularly from Andy Anderson. His stuff is so creative and awe inducing. I have shared his The Shape of Paris before, but I also highly recommend his earlier Crazy Wisdom. Both are unlike things I had seen before from skate videos and just really stretched my brain1.

I also spent some time rewatching one of my favorite anime of all time: Bocchi The Rock and thinking a lot about Andrew Huang at the GRM Residency.

Finally, here's some photos from my last week. Thanks for reading.
