Some Ambient + Experimental Music

I was talking to my mom, and she wanted some examples of the kind of #music that I am trying to make. To do this, I wanted to pull together three example albums for her to listen to. It's worth noting that the #ambient and #experimental genres are huge. Just check out The Best Experimental Music on Bandcamp, April 2026 or The Best Ambient Music on Bandcamp, March 2026. Each of the albums are pretty different. Some commonalities, but in general very unique.

All of this to say, I picked three things here, but they do not summarize the genres.

1. hypervisibility by tehn

This is a relatively new album that I love a lot. tehn, aka Brian Crabtree, is the designer and creator of Monome and also just an incredible artist. I've been following his work since around 2018, and it has always inspired me in some way.

2. Dani Derks + Jonathan Snyder (220924 @ luck dragon)

Related, Brian and Kelly Crabtree also operate luck dragon in Delhi, NY. It's an art store and general space. I attended a weekend workshop there in 2022 run by Dani Derks and Jonathan Snyder. This performance was in the evening and I really enjoyed it. My only complaint is I don't think the recording properly captures Jonathan's performance in all of its details well. I remember lots of breathing sounds, which I don't hear as much on the youtube.

3. Selected Jambient Works Vol. 1 by Cowboy Sadness

https://cowboysadness.bandcamp.com/album/selected-jambient-works-vol-1

I picked this because it's a local band. They are from Kingston, NY. It's more fast paced then what I usually want to make, but I do like it a lot. It highlights the more jazz based influences of these genres, mixing guitars and other instruments into the creation.

Honorable mentions

There's a bunch of other stuff that I don't think quite fits into what I'm trying to make, but I do think is nearby. Often in the categories of Jazz, Deep House, etc. Here's a list of some of that.
