🚨 The RSS feed is moving! 🚨
It will now be at https://feeds.jimkang.com/weblog/feed.xml. The old feed at https://jimkang.com/weblog/feed.xml will redirect to the new feed for about a week, but after that, Cloudflare will be in front of that old feed, and it may block your reader. Hopefully, the RSS readers will notice the 301 (permanent redirect) response and update their subscriptions, but I have no idea if that’s how they work. So, the best option is to subscribe to https://feeds.jimkang.com/weblog/feed.xml in your feed reader.
Sorry for the inconvenience! It’s the best I could come up with under these conditions:
- I do not want to spend my bandwidth on AI scraper visits. It’s over half of the traffic.
- Anubis is effective but seems like it would take more time to install than I want to spend. Also, the anime character is not in character with my site. (But I totally understand they do have to provide some reason for you to upgrade to the paid version.)
- Cloudflare’s Bot Fight Mode will not allow exceptions to specific paths within a domain. So, it will present an interactive challenge to RSS feed reader that it trusts thereby blocking everyone’s small or hand-rolled feed readers.
So, I’m creating a new domain just for feeds and not putting Cloudflare on that, while turning Cloudflare on for the rest of the site.
As much as I want to avoid it, I’m also truncating the feed content to limit what gets served to automated agents because it’s better to be safe than sorry here. I don’t trust the companies sucking up the internet, and I can’t predict what will be done with this data in the future.
I always think about how ten years ago, keeping photos of yourself private on social media was a matter of protecting your identity from people visiting those sites. Later, it turned out to be a matter of protecting your identity from someone that might take a picture of you in public.
Anyway, if you’re an RSS user, please subscribe at https://feeds.jimkang.com/weblog/feed.xml!
